Hoodia is a cactus like plant which looks similar to cactus but is not that exactly. It is a succulent which has many species. The wonderful properties were found out by the Sans Bushmen tribes of South Africa. They used this exclusive plant for suppressing hunger and thirst when they traveled long distances for hunting. There are about twenty species of hoodia. Among them only one species is known for the property of suppressing hunger. It is the hoodia gordonii which is now used for various slimming products.
